Abishua

ABISHUA (a-bĭsh'ū-a, Heb. ’ăvîshûa‘, perhaps the father is salvation or noble)

The son of Phinehas the priest (1Chr.6.4-1Chr.6.5, 1Chr.6.50; Ezra.7.5).A Benjamite of the family of Bela (1Chr.8.4).



ABISHUA ə bĭsh’ ōō ə (אֲבִישׁ֗וּעַ, my [or the] father is salvation [or wealth] or the father of salvation). In KJV of 1 Esdras 8:2 ABISUM ăb’ ĭ sŭm, and in 1 Esdras 1:2 ABISEI ăb ĭs’ eī. The name variously given in the LXX MSS. 1. A great grandson of Aaron, son of Phineas, the priest and ancestor of Ezra the scribe (1 Chron 6:4, 5, 50; Ezra 7:5) included in the genealogy of Levi among the descendants of Aaron serving the altar.

2. One of the sons of Bela who was the first-born of Benjamin (1 Chron 8:4).

a-bish’-u-a, abi-shoo’-a (’abhishua`, uncertain, perhaps "father of wealth," or "my father is wealth"):

(1) A son of Bela the son of Benjamin (1Ch 8:4).

(2) The son of Phinehas, who was grandson to Aaron (1Ch 6:4,5,50, Ezr 7:5).
