Almoner

One who is an official distributor of the alms of a person or institution. He may be acting for a religious house, a bishop, a prince, or a person of rank. In England the royal almoner distributes the royal almony on Maundy Thursday.* The term is sometimes applied to the chaplain of a hospital, infirmary, or orphanage.
